SATURDAY 1st NOVEMBER: SHORT & STEADY OXFORD 360

Meet outside the OUP building on Walton Street, Oxford at 9:45am for a prompt 10am departure on a clockwise 360 degree circumnavigation of Oxford. The ride is 9 miles in length and will be mostly on minor roads and cycle tracks. It is also almost entirely flat. We will return to Jericho for refreshments after the ride. The ride leader will be Ellen Lee (ellen@133.me.uk)

SUNDAY 9th NOVEMBER: STARLING WATCHING ON OTMOOR

We will meet at 2.15pm for a prompt 2.30pm start outside the Sheldonian in Broad Street,  for an 8 mile ride to Otmoor arriving in time to walk to the reedbeds and get set up to watch the starlings come to roost before sunset 4-4.30pm.

I suggest as it is not very practical to fit in a scheduled cafe stop on this outing, that you bring a flask of something hot with you and I will supply something sweet to eat with drinks.

We will ride home the most direct way, coming back into Headington, and you will need lights and “be seen” gear for the return ride.  The ride leader is Clare Farley.

SATURDAY 15th NOVEMBER: LONG RIDE: WANDERING TO WITNEY

Meet in Radcliffe Square at 9.45am for a 10am departure to Witney. The route will leave via North Oxford and the A44 cycle track to Yarnton before heading on road via Long Hanborough, North Leigh and New Yatt. The return trip will be via Stanton Harcourt and Eynsham. The outward journey includes a gentle climb through Long Hanborough and onto North Leigh, but the return journey is flat. The return trip will be approximately 28 miles and will be led by Liz Matthews (liz.masterman@gmail.com).

FRIDAY 21st NOVEMBER STOP & STARE RIDE: “THE PAINTED GLASS OF OXFORD”

Meet outside the Sheldonian Theatre on Broad Street, Oxford at 2pm.  We aim to stop to view at least three different colleges/churches, time permitting, to look at stained glass windows dating from the 13th to the late 20th centuries.  We will stop for tea and cakes at the Isis Farmhouse, near Iffley Village, before our final visit to see the newest work.

With stops of no more than 20 minutes (allowing for stashing bikes safely), the ride should take 2½ to 3 hours, at a slow pace, and involving some travel on the tow path between town and Iffley Village (weather permitting!).  The ride length is 5½ miles from start to finish.  You may need to bring lights for the ride home.  Notes on the history of the glass will be provided. The ride leader will be Jane Carlton-Smith, janecs@phonecoop.coop.

SUNDAY 30th NOVEMBER: JOINT ISIS/OXFORD CITY CTC RIDE TO COFFEE AT THE MILK SHED, WESTON ON THE GREEN

Meet outside Oxford Campus Stores in Broad St, Oxford, for a 9:30am prompt departure for The Milk Shed, Weston on the Green. We will leave Oxford via Marston and ride through Woodeaton and Islip before turning to skirt the northern edge of Otmoor. After passing through the village of Merton, we’ll take a brideway (with a good, hard surface) emerging just north of Wendlebury. From here it’s a short ride to Weston on the Green and refreshments at the Milk Shed. The return journey will be more direct via Bletchingdon, Hampton Poyle and Kidlington. The return trip will be approximately 24 miles long and there is one hill either side of coffee. The leader will be Ellen Lee (ellen@133.me.uk).
