Results of the Isis Cyclists summer survey, September 2009

A big thank you to the 58 women who completed the Isis Cyclists online survey! Encouragingly, three-quarters had been on at least one of our rides, with the rest hoping to join us soon.

Positive feedback: aspects of the group to maintain
We received overwhelming positive feedback about the group and requests (virtually demands!) to keep it going. This has shown us that we are achieving our objective: to provide a friendly, informal, relaxed atmosphere which encourages women of all ages and fitness to gain cycling confidence and to enjoy leisurely gentle paced group cycling with all it has to offer – not forgetting the all important tea and cake stops! It was wonderful to read that Isis Cyclists provide a warm friendly welcome to newcomers on their first ride, which encourages them to come back for more! All Isis Cyclists should be thanked for helping with that one!

The short (5-10 miles) and long (10-20 miles) rides have been equally popular – much to our surprise and delight! These will be kept as a regular feature. The occasional mixed social rides were well supported and the proposed joint rides with other CTC groups attracted great interest. Keep an eye on the website for future rides.

Proposed changes
Several people said that there was no need to change anything! However, we shouldn’t shy away from change and there were some very good suggestions for some small but important changes to improve Isis Cyclists.

Longer rides
The most popular suggestion was longer rides (20-30 miles). These would provide the opportunity to open up more of the Oxfordshire countryside, new tea and cake stops and may provide a link for some of you to confidently join one of the longer Oxford City CTC group rides. So, what are we doing about that? As it happens, Ellen has already organised a 30 mile joint ride with the Oxford City CTC group on Sunday 8 November 2009 (details will be on the website in due course). There may also be an additional Isis Cyclists (women only) longer ride in the near future (before Christmas).

Better punctuality for ride start times
What are we doing? Beginning in October, we are publicising a meeting time, which will be 15 minutes before the ride starts. This will allow time for everyone to sign the attendance register and a punctual start to the ride. This means planning your morning to allow enough time to get to the ride start, so you don’t miss us!

Ride meeting points
The majority requested differing ride starting points within the city boundary (i.e. the ring road). What are we doing? In planning rides for next 3 months, we have ensured that the starting points are distributed as fairly as possible around the city.

More ride details
What are we doing? We will endeavour to provide a bit more detail about future rides including flatness or hilliness. Hopefully this help with decisions about suitability.

Thanks again to the 58 of you who took the time to complete the survery. It’s given us even more energy for the future!
