Sat 6 June 2009: ‘Five Miles to Fabulous’ (plus another five!) along waterways and cycle paths

The CTC’s annual ‘Five Miles to Fabulous!’ campaign to encourage women onto their bikes is the event which got the Isis Cyclists off the ground in June 2008. This year’s ‘Five Miles to Fabulous’ neatly coincided with the Isis Cyclists’ regular first-Saturday-of-the-month short ride, so there were two five mile rides back to back and a 1st birthday celebration! Twelve riders met in the steady rain at Oxford railway station for a gentle meander north along some of the city’s waterway cycle paths and by-ways, returning via Binsey Lane and North Hinksey. The second ride went south by the Thames Path and number 5 cycle route, by which point tea and cake at Amanda’s house was well-deserved! It’s extremely unusual for it to rain on an Isis Cycle, so big thanks to all for turning out, and special thanks to Stephen Lee for baking us such a delicious 1st birthday cake!
